Privacy policy

Censible is a tool for understanding places, so we collect as little about people as we can. This page explains what we do collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

Censible is run by Lexigo, of Level 21, 459 Collins Street, Melbourne Victoria 3000. We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and this policy covers this website, the Censible app, the API and the MCP server for AI assistants.

What we collect

Your account. You sign in with your email address and either a password or a link we email you. If you set a password, Supabase stores it as a one-way hash, so it can't be read back by anyone, including us. We keep your email address, an account ID, your plan, and when your account was created.

Billing. If you pay for a plan, Stripe collects your card details on its own payment pages, so they never pass through Censible. Stripe sends us your name, email address, plan and payment history, which we use to give you access to your plan and to keep the records tax law requires.

What you make in Censible. Saved areas (their names, descriptions, and the places or shapes they cover) and site sets (their names, the sites in them, each site's name, address or coordinates, and the performance figure you give it). You choose what goes into these, and you can change or delete them at any time.

How much you use it. To apply each plan's daily limits, we count what you do each day: the places you open, the maps you shade, your searches, your PDF exports and the requests your AI assistants make. These counts are deleted after 35 days.

Emails. Resend sends the emails Censible sends you, such as sign-in links and receipts, and receives the emails you send to our addresses, so it holds your email address and the content of those messages.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting providers receive your IP address and basic details of each request (the page or address asked for, your browser and the time). We also record the address of any request that's slow, to find what needs speeding up.

AI assistant connections. If you connect an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, we keep a record of which apps you've allowed, so you can see and remove them on the Use with AI page.

What we don't collect

We don't use advertising trackers or sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone except the providers below, who help us run Censible. This website counts visits with Plausible, which doesn't use cookies, doesn't store IP addresses and doesn't identify individual visitors. Card details are entered on Stripe's pages, not on this website or in the app.

How we use it

  • To run Censible: sign you in, show you your saved areas and sites, and work out the figures you ask for.
  • To apply plan limits and keep the service secure and working well.
  • To bill you for a paid plan and keep billing and tax records.
  • To send sign-in links and receipts, reply when you contact us, and tell you about important changes to Censible or these policies.

The sites you upload are only used to show you your own analysis. They aren't shown to other people, added to Censible's data, or used to train AI models.

Who helps us run Censible

  • Supabase handles sign-in and stores your account, saved areas and sites, in its Sydney region.
  • Fly.io runs the Censible app and API, in Sydney.
  • Stripe takes payments and keeps billing records.
  • Resend sends and receives Censible's email, from its Tokyo region.
  • Plausible counts visits to this website without collecting personal information.
  • Cloudflare hosts this website and stores the census data the app reads. No personal information is kept there.
  • Sanity stores this website's text. No personal information is kept there.

When the app loads, your browser also fetches map tiles from OpenFreeMap, code libraries from jsDelivr and fonts from Google Fonts, so those services see your IP address.

Some of these providers store or process personal information outside Australia, chiefly Resend in Japan and Stripe in the United States. We take reasonable steps to make sure any provider holding personal information overseas handles it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

When you connect an AI assistant, the figures it asks Censible for are sent to that assistant's provider, and are handled under that provider's own privacy policy.

Storage in your browser

The app keeps your sign-in session in your browser's local storage, along with your choice of light or dark mode. To make pages load faster, it keeps census figures in session storage, which your browser clears when you close the tab. We don't use advertising cookies.

How long we keep it

We keep your account, saved areas and sites until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Daily usage counts are kept for 35 days. Our hosting providers keep their request logs for a limited time under their own policies.

Database backups are taken daily and kept for 7 days. When your account is deleted, your information is removed from the live database within 7 days, and from backups as they expire 7 days after that. Billing and tax records are kept for five years, as Australian tax law requires. More detail is on Security and data.

Your choices

  • Delete saved areas, site sets and individual sites in the app at any time.
  • Disconnect AI assistants on the Use with AI page.
  • Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@censible.com.au. We'll reply within 30 days, and may need to confirm it's you first.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, email support@censible.com.au and we'll respond within 30 days. If our response doesn't resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Security

Information travels to and from Censible encrypted. Only you can see your saved areas and sites, and every request is checked against your sign-in. If we become aware of a breach that's likely to cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change matters, such as a new kind of information or a new use for it, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
