Coming from REMPLAN?

REMPLAN has modelled regional economies since 2006, building on work begun at La Trobe University in Bendigo. Its strengths are economic impact modelling and council profiles. Censible covers narrower ground: the Census for every place in Australia, on the same boundaries, ready to compare, rank and pull into your own tools.

Strengths

What REMPLAN does well

REMPLAN Economy models 114 industries from the ABS's national input-output tables, with multipliers specific to each region. Its impact modelling estimates the direct and flow-on effects of a project or event on jobs, output, wages and gross regional product, and is used in grant applications, business cases and cost-benefit work. Census data alone cannot produce those figures.

REMPLAN Community covers more than 75 social and demographic indicators back to 1991, with SEIFA scores. REMPLAN Forecast projects population, households and dwellings 20 years ahead, built up from small planning areas with council inputs on land supply and developments. Its housing product adds property sales, rental listings and building approvals, and catchments can be set by travel time by car, bike, walking or public transport. Subscriptions include training and access to REMPLAN's team.

Limitations

What REMPLAN isn't built for

REMPLAN is organised around the councils and regions a subscriber licenses. Councils can publish public profiles, which show core insights, with more detail for subscribers. Comparing places across many councils, or across Australia, depends on what has been licensed.

Prices are not published, apart from a dashboard add-on at $2,500 plus GST a year; subscriptions start with an enquiry. Its website describes exports and PDF reports, but we found no API, so figures reach other tools by export.

How Censible differs

Every place, on the same footing

Censible does not model local economies, forecast from development pipelines or track property sales. It puts every suburb, postcode, council and statistical area in Australia on the ABS's 2026 boundaries, with the 2011, 2016 and 2021 censuses lined up and 618 metrics for each. You can compare places across council lines, rank them, draw a radius, a drive or walk time or a boundary, and upload your own sites to see how the strongest differ from the rest.

The same figures come through a JSON API and a connection for AI assistants. Censible's projections to 2026 and 2031 are simpler than REMPLAN's forecasts: ABS estimates and Geoscience Australia projections, labelled as projections wherever they appear.
